Grandma's Stuffing

This stuffing has lots of crunch and flavor from the apples, celery, and onions. Whole wheat bread gives this recipe a boost of whole grains.

Ingredients

  • 10 piece(s) Whole wheat bread, cubed, or white bread or buns, dry
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 medium onion Onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks Celery, chopped
  • 1 tbsp Parsley, dried
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 cup Milk, fat free
  • 1 piece(s) Egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 piece(s) Apples (optional, pared, cored and chopped)
  • 2 tbsp Raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 °F.
  2. Put cubes in a large bowl. Set aside.
  3. Put water in medium saucepan. Add onion, celery, parsley, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes. Do not drain. Pour over bread cubes.
  4. Stir in milk and egg. Gently stir in apples, and raisins, if desired.
  5. Spoon into a greased 2-quart baking dish.
  6. Bake at 350 °F for 1 hour.
